Is The New iPhone 5 All It’s Cracked Up To Be?

I’m not sure about other people, but I felt a little let down when the iPhone 5 was announced. I wasn’t expecting anything earth shattering as it was, Apple no longer has the hold which it used to on the industry; other smart phone makers have caught up, and passed, the mighty Apple.

iPhone 5
The highlights of the new iPhone 5 are:

  • Bigger 4″ screen. Yet this is still smaller than the Samsung Galaxy S3 and several other smart phones.
  • Higher screen resolution, very nice.
  • Reduced weight. We’re talking grams here, hardly noticeable when it’s in your pocket.
  • A faster processor.
  • iOS6 – we all knew that this was coming.
  • Increased battery life. But still way down on the S3. But if you can go 2 days without having to charge it that’s a bonus.
  • Improved camera. I like the idea of an improved camera, the one on my 3GS is terrible.
  • 4G LTE connectivity, this is only good news if your carrier offers that service.
  • A new connector, which Apple will make millions from by selling adapters to enable customers existing hardware to work with the new iPhone.

As you will have already gathered, I won’t be queueing up on release day to get my hands on the new iPhone 5. Apple used to be an innovator and regularly shock us with its latest and greatest release, but now they just seem to be playing catch up and playing it safe.

What do you think?
